Father's Little Dividend

⁣Father’s Little Dividend (1951) is a classic American comedy film directed by Vincente Minnelli and produced by Pandro S. Berman. It stars Spencer Tracy, Joan Bennett, Elizabeth Taylor, and Don Taylor.
The film is a direct sequel to the beloved 1950 hit Father of the Bride. This time, Stanley Banks (Spencer Tracy), who has just recovered—emotionally and financially—from his daughter Kay’s (Elizabeth Taylor) lavish wedding, is hit with another surprise: Kay is expecting her first child.
Stanley finds himself once again caught between panic, humor, and tender moments as he grapples with the idea of becoming a grandfather before he feels ready. His comedic misadventures include overprotectiveness, misunderstandings, and his own anxieties about aging. Meanwhile, his wife Ellie (Joan Bennett) and son-in-law Buckley (Don Taylor) try to keep him grounded.
With its mix of warmth, wit, and heartfelt family moments, Father’s Little Dividend captures the universal joys and anxieties of parenthood—and now grandparenthood—making it a timeless follow-up to Father of the Bride.
