Mr. Imperium
Mr. Imperium (1951) is a romantic drama film produced by MGM, starring Lana Turner and Ezio Pinza, with Marisa Pavan and Barry Sullivan in supporting roles.
Plot Summary:
The film tells the story of a glamorous, bittersweet romance between a beautiful American woman, Fredda Barlo, and an Italian prince, Prince Alexis (Mr. Imperium). Fredda, a young woman vacationing in Italy, meets and falls in love with Alexis without knowing his royal identity. Their brief romance is interrupted when Alexis must suddenly return home to assume his royal duties, leaving Fredda heartbroken.
Years later, now a successful Hollywood actress, Fredda unexpectedly crosses paths with Alexis once again — but the years and their separate lives have changed them both. The story explores love lost and found, duty versus desire, and the price of privilege.
Notable Facts:
The film was shot in Technicolor, showcasing lush European scenery.
Ezio Pinza, a famous opera singer, provided musical numbers in the film.
Although the film was intended to be a romantic musical, it didn’t perform well at the box office and remains a curiosity in MGM’s early 1950s catalog.
